definition:
A thoughtful portrait of man must include his technologies, ever changing.
The arrangement of what is considered ordinary in a novel way can provide new perspective.
Collage ordinary items in a way that speaks to the creation of the portrait and the perception of the portrait maker while acknowledging the effect of changing technologies.
desription:
A dark space, perhaps a hallway. A space that one could walk through assuming nothing extraordinary. Travelling through this hall inevitably heightens the senses. Before eyes can adjust, a dark panel activates with light and the sound of mechanation. Looking into the panel provides more information. Every so often the light within the box becomes more intense and the motions within the box become more apparent. The observer gains more knowledge of the space behind the more it is observed and perception of the space changes. Vision is emphasized as the primary means of communication between the space and the observer. This connection is expressed through forms within the space as well as the lenses from eyeglasses inlaid in the screen that one must look through. The importance of the observer's perception is further acknowledged when their own eye becomes visible in its reflection on one of the lenses. The space is clean and bold outwardly, but reveals itself to be simple and fragile on the inside. Meanwhile maintaining a level of abstraction that makes the space flexible enough express how we see portraits. A line is then drawn between the observer's ability to understand the space and any resulting biographies.
